Phonat – Ghetto Burnin’
MofoHifi Records is pleased to bring you their second release from Italian prodigy ‘Phonat’.
The 7 foot tall young Italian with his trade-mark unruly mop of long curly hair is quickly making a name for himself in the UK. It would seem it is not just his overwhelming physical presence that’s causing a stir, but following his move from rural Italy to London and the subsequent limited release of his ‘Incredible Sound EP’ support has come thick and fast. Radio 1 specialists Annie Mac, Annie Nightingale, Eddie Haliwell and the Trophy Twins plus key jocks at Kiss and Galaxy have all featured his tracks on their shows, the EP was also added to the MOS playlist. ‘Incredible Sound‘ has since been used on numerous compilations along with his remixes, which have been picked up by Kitsune and Global Underground. Unsurprising then, that many have earmarked Phonat as an exciting talent to watch in 2008.
Phonat’s latest offering, Ghetto Burnin’ not only features the artist’s distinct style of crunching guitars fused with glitchy French electro sounds but also includes stunning vocals from Yolanda Quartey who is currently touring with Massive Attack. Remixes come from label buddy Sharooz whose more minimal mix builds into club destroying mayhem and the final offering is a piano led house mix by Mohito.
